Coava Coffee recently spun off their equipment company to form Able Brewing Equipment and the DISK now comes with handy suggested prep instructions. We try them out with the DISK and regular paper filters to see how they compare.

If you haven’t tried using white micro-holed melitta filters for your aeropress brews yet, I highly suggest that you should. The difference in taste between them and regular paper filters is very noticeable and the pressure from the aeropress plunger just magnifies it.

I don’t think Melitta sells ready-made circular filters though so you’re probably gonna have to make your own cut-outs like I do.

@computerphonenow it’s essential to proper Aeropress brewing! - Kat

@hegle25 Yay! Great to hear. :) – Kat

  6. hegle25 says:

@Kat: Worked great. While I am grinding my beans, I let the Aeropress sit filled with hot water which I dump into my insulated mug to heat it while coffee is brewing. Empty mug, screw on filter, invert the Aeropress and push plunger to finish the process. Great tasting hot coffee. It was always too cool the old way of doing it.

  7. SeattleCoffeeGear says:

@hegle25 Def keeps more in the Aeropress and less in the cup! Let us know how it goes for you :) – Kat

I never thought to load and brew with the Aeropress inverted before placing the cap and filter and then doing the thirty second press in the upright position. Great idea. I’ll try it next time I use the Aeropress.

@scenic007 It’s the Capresso H20Pro — we did a video on it so you can check out that review, too. I do believe it does it in Celsius; they’re Swiss so you could likely find them somewhere in your neck of the woods. – Kat

@etherealrhythm Ah, I got it….but I have to admit that I am currently crushing on wait what’s notorious xx (music by the xx with biggie smalls raps) — it’s pretty tight. – Kat

@SeattleCoffeeGear Gotta love the escapism and transportative ability of music! But in the current climate I use that label simply to mean anything that’s even slightly deeper than the ‘paper and hoes, paper and hoes’ mentality of mainstream hip hop.

Love the waterheater, What brand is it, and whats the price, and does it also show Celcius. Greeting from Norway

@etherealrhythm I love old school, but I hate the ‘conscious’ label — mainly because, for me, I love the stories, regardless of context. For example, early 90′s gangsta rap is a favorite because it talks about an era, location, growing up experiences, etc., that I will never know…so, for me, it’s conscious because it’s talking about life and I dig that. I love it the same way I love music from other countries — insight into another world. – Kat

@SeattleCoffeeGear Excellent! Old skool/conscious hip hop is amazing.

@etherealrhythm I’ve got range, baby — and a deep, deep love for hip hop, dating back to my childhood in the ’80′s. :D – Kat

Kat would not strike me as an individual that listens to rap music.

@YoungJim409 Haha — I hear that. Jess preferred the DISK, too, off-camera, though. We don’t have the fisticup yet (argh!) but hoping it will come in soon. – Kat

Glad to see ya tried it with the new Able instructions. I bought an Aeropress and DISK (and a Fist-a-cup) a couple days after watching your previous DISK video.

  24. YoungJim409 says:

Hmm.. A split opinion on performance, and the DISK is something I have to chase down and wash? Being deeply in the habit of removing the basket and ejecting the puck and the paper into the garbage can, I figure it’d be a day or two til I did the same with the DISK! ;-)

In other news I’m on my way to the website when I finish this to see if I can find a fist-i-cup and perhaps a kettle like that one.

As always, thank you for taking the time to put the video together!

  25. PiercedCub32 says:

That Fist-a-Cup should be a giveaway! LOL. Best looking Coffee submitted as a video response? ;D
